Early Years Foundation Stage

The children are the centre of everything we do at Penshurst Primary School, and this is key to our ethos in the Foundation Stage. Children are supported in their learning by experienced teachers and teaching assistants who are dedicated, passionate and focused on providing your child with a strong foundation for a lifetime of learning.

We strive to offer them new and joined up challenges that are exciting, inspiring and encourage exploration. Children are inherently curious and their brains absorb the most information when they are relaxed, content and at ease. As a result, their wellbeing is at the core of our approach to learning. We think creatively about the curriculum, with the aim that each child will be captivated by learning and become creators, explorers and risk takers, following their own interests and asking questions to extend their own learning.

Our small class size and high staff ratio promotes a purposeful and happy atmosphere. The children also benefit from having access to our well-equipped outdoor classroom, which they can access as they choose throughout every day. Each term there is a new overarching topic that filters into their exploration of all subjects across the curriculum. We intend to immerse each child in an enriched learning experience, through play, discussion and experiments.
