  • Music

At Penshurst Church of England Primary School we believe that music is a universal language that can include students of all abilities and backgrounds.

We aim to engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and discover their own talent as musicians, increasing their self-confidence, fostering their creativity and creating a sense of achievement. All pupils will have opportunities to perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of genres, styles and traditions. This will include the works of the great composers and musicians from the classical and contemporary eras.

Children will learn to sing and to use their voices and will have opportunities to create and compose music on their own and with others. Children will develop their understanding of music through the exploration of how music is created, produced and communicated, including through pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.

At Penshurst Church of England Primary School we are committed to ensuring equal opportunities and every child, regardless of gender, ethnicity or ability will be given equal access to all areas of the music curriculum and supported to participate fully in all music lessons. We will value, explore and perform music of all cultures and explore the part music plays in the celebration of religious and cultural festivals.
